Web 1.0 website evaluation

Hello everyone ! Today I will post and evaluate some interesting web 1.0 websites to work in class with the topic: "extreme sports". I hope you find them useful !

1) Extreme sports video available at : 
https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/snowdon/extreme-sports


Accuracy: The British Council - The United Kingdom´s international organization for cultural realtions and educational opportunities wrote these activities to work with this video. As it is a very well known organization, we can assume that it is a reliable resource. 

Currency : It was uploaded in 2011 and the extreme sports presented in the video are still up to date.

Content: The webpage is attractive and easy to navigate. You are presented with a previous activity before watching the video, activities for comprehension and the transcript of the video dialogues.
All the activities can be downloaded in a word document as well as done online.

Functionality: The webpage works pretty well but you need an internet connection to watch the video because it cannot be downloaded as the activities. The links at the right of the page work pretty and they are organized so than students access the one that they need to do the listening successfully


2) Adventure travel and activities extreme sports and exciting expeditions ( authetic text ) - available at : 
https://www.gapyear.com/adventure-travel



Accuracy: Website by Umi Digital | Managing Editor Will Jones | Deputy Editor Dave Owen - It is a webpage that provides their readers with some advices and information on what to do if you take a gap year and you want to do some extreme sports. Since there is no specific author for this article, it cannot be assumed that it is a relable webpage.

Currency: the webpage is up-to-date since it also offers different extreme sports you may want to try with their prices and links to buy.

Content: The content is interesting since it helps you choose the activity you would like to try and it gives useful advices.

Functionality: The webpage works well and the hyperlinks too. The article is mainly composed by text. There are not many links students need to access. However, there are a few and all work and lead to interesting webpages related to the topic

3) 25 adventure activities around the world - ( authentic text ) available at :

Accuracy: By Viator, Contributor - Tours and activities around the world - It seems to be reliable even though it was written by a contributor. It gives the option of sending an e-mail to the organizers of the webpage if the find something wrong or abusive.

Currency : 01/25/2013 07:06am ET | Updated December 7, 2017 - The content is up-to-date and the infomation seems to be reliable.

Content: It is a quite long text with too many sports presented. However, the descriptions of each extreme activity is short and simple and the article is full of pictures that illustrate each activity.

Functionality: The article works well. There aren´t many links students can access to enlarge on the topic but the ones that are on the page lead to interesting webpages and work well. The only disadvantage is that the article is full of advertising about different topics even some that have nothing to do with sports. 

4) History of extreme sports - available at: 
https://thrillspire.com/history-of-extreme-sports


Accuracy: The name of the author is Manali Oak- It is not a well known author so we cannot fully trust on the reliability of the text but the content seems to be accurate and reliable.

Currency : Last Updated: Mar 2, 2018 . It makes some reference to the present of extreme sports so the content is up-to-date. 

Content: Even though it is not a unique text but separate pieces of information that make reference to different important facts about the history of these sports, the information is interesting and stimulating. There are plenty of links to other interesting articles and pictures but there are also many links with publicity. 

Functionality: The webpage and the links work well. 

5) preventing extreme sports injuries - text available at: 
https://thrillspire.com/preventing-extreme-sports-injuries
Accuracy: The name of the author is Snehal Motkar- It is not a well known author so we cannot fully trust on the reliability of the text but the content seems to be accurate.

Currency :There is no reference to when the text was published or if it was updated. We cannot fully trust the currency and reliability of this text. 

Content: Even though it is not a unique text but separate pieces of information that make reference to different important facts about the history of these sports, the information is interesting and stimulating. There are plenty of pictures and each piece of information has its own subtitle.

Functionality: The webpage and the links works well. There are many hyperlinks within that lead to different articles that belong to the same page and that enlarge on the information about each sport. The links and the texts in this article are well organized and it is easy to go through them. 

6) X games - text available at : 
https://www.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/x-games/


Accuracy: National geographic - It is a very well known orgaisation therefore we can asume that this article is reliable. It provides the reader with plenty of information about the authors, the editors, the illustrations creators and the educator reviewer.

Currency :Jan. 21, 2011 was the last date in which it was updated so we can asume that the information is current.

Content: The text is not that long and it is interesting. There is some vocabulary underlined in the text and there is another secion in the webpage where those words are defined.

Functionality: The webpage and the links work well. There are some words in the text that are underlined and if you click on them you can find a definition without the need of going to a different place. This is particularly useful as students don´t need to interrupt their reading to go to a different page and search the words they don´t understand. As in many of the articles, there are also many hyperlinks with advertisings that are not useful for the students. 


7)X Games Minneapolis 2019: Frequently Asked Questions - guideline available at:

Accuracy:  There is no clear author for this text so we cannot fully rely on it. 

Currency :Jun 10, 2019 was the last time it was updated so we can trust the text reliability in this aspect. 

Content: The text is not that long and it is interesting. It provides frequent doubts that people that want to attend this year Xgames have. Learners that are into sports may feel very motivated by it. 

Functionality: The webpage and the links work well. As regards the text, there are some hyperlinks to social media related to the topic and the work well. And on the left, there is a column where people can make their comments about it. However, as it was uploaded a few months ago the comments are old.
